Keanu Reeves to Star as Jekyll and Hyde

In the news today is the story that Universal is the latest in a long line to develop a retelling of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novella, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and that Keanu Reeves is attached to star as the titular characters.

In case your knowledge of Stevenson literature isn’t so hot, the original tale is an investigation into human nature and the interplay of good and evil, following a doctor who scientifically develops an evil self, and has become so pervasive that the phrase 'Jekyll and Hyde' has entered the zeitgeist as a representation of a split personality.

Now is it just me, or does anyone else feel the need to raise their hand and ask the most obvious of questions: why oh why would you choose Mr Robot Face to play not only one but TWO characters who, y’know, need to show emotions and stuff?? Don’t get me wrong – Keanu Reeves, bless him, is great when it comes to running away from loud explosions and when you want someone to dodge a bullet, he’s your man, but you’d have to work pretty darn hard to convince me that (how can I say this politely?) he has the psychological depth and emotional range to play two such complex characters.

But that’s just me. And one-sided debates are never that much fun, so feel free to post your thoughts below.
